Dear colleague
Here are some links that I hope you find helpful:
Some light touch CPD for primaries
There are an awful lot of curriculum resources that are dull and tired. Our pupils deserve better! It doesn't mean more work, it's about a different lens.
I'll be running a free CPD session to crack this nut. Monday 8th September 3.30 – 4.30pm.
Equity Season 2025 from WomenEd, BAMEEd Network, Headteachers Roundtable & CST: Free online webinars exploring inequities affecting school staff at every level. You can sign up to receive links to each of the webinars you are interested in.
I’ll be going to the Anti-racism in the Curriculum Conference 2025 in London Saturday 13th September.
Using AI in RE lessons by Kris McKinnis – an excellent short piece and applicable across the curriculum. I’ve also done a short piece on ensuring high quality teaching resources in RE.
I had a fascinating conversation with Hywel Robers for the CAPE (Climate Adapted Pathways in Education) podcast which you can watch here.
Jon Tait is a brilliant leader and communicator and I thoroughly enjoyed talking to him about the curriculum for his podcast, The Arch.
Small and mighty: Conversations about small schools by Aimee Tinkler
Excellent news that there’s a greater focus on small schools, helpful insights for the whole sector.
Selby Education Trust ran a Small School Briefing on the curriculum, link to the recording here, and for anyone interested in continuing the conversation, here’s the link to register for the next steps.
‘Because of you, this is me’ is a terrific new book from Jaz Ampaw-Farr reminding us of the difference teachers can make to children’s lives.
Kelly Allchin is doing great work and her new book '100 Ideas for Secondary Teachers: Student Personal Development' is full of terrific ideas. She’s offering a 25% discount via Bloomsbury using the code: ALLCHIN25 Kelly also has a Substack where she shares ideas for embedding PSHE.
Be an Ally, not a Bystander: Allyship lessons for 7-12 year olds by Frances Akinde. I found it both thought provoking and full of ideas to help children learn about diversity and difference, and to make a conscious choice to support those who are marginalised.
Being your best, doing your best
In this positive and powerful series from Dr Emma Kell, she walks us through important aspects of leadership and personal development. From identity and values, balance and self-care to relationships and networks, Emma gives us powerful insights and strategies to improve in all aspects of our roles.
You can find Emma’s course on Myatt & Co, available with an annual or group subscription.
New webinars on Myatt & Co
KS3 The Ambitious Years: a new project developing curriculum resources. Underpinned by the findings from the ‘Faster Read’ I make the case that it’s possible to increase challenge and inclusion.
This will be an expanding library of teacher resources and pupil booklets for Key Stage 3. We’ve started with history and religious education and more on the way.
You can access the webinars with an annual or group subscription to Myatt & Co.
Finding My Voice: A whole school approach to oracy and personal development
If you are looking for light touch, high impact ways of developing oracy and personal development in your contexts, you’ll find these ‘Bites’ on Finding My Voice helpful.
For example, What makes me shine? This lovely provocation for pupils from Christian Foley is one of the prompts to support personal development in primary. And a neat provocation from Manny Awoyelu on the power of an idea.
And if you’d like to explore the programme, there’s a 14 day free trial, to Finding my Voice and you can sign up here.
If you think there’s someone who would appreciate this update, you can forward the link here
Until next time
