School improvement update August 2025

Sensible stuff, no quick fixes

Dear colleague

Here are some links that I hope you find helpful:

Free Curriculum CPD session for primaries

This is proving popular! Join over 800 colleagues for this session on how to revitalise the primary curriculum with The Teachers' Collection.

I’ll be running the webinar on Monday 8th September 3.30 – 4.30pm.

Your Leadership Matters: Step Up and Own Your Year

A free webinar with Nadine Bernard, Saturday 30th August 10.00am

A focused, high-impact session for educators who want to start the academic year with clarity, momentum, and authentic authority. Hosted by Nadine Bernard (multi-award-winning innovator, headteacher, and founder of Aspiring Head), the webinar distils ten practical strategies for taking full ownership of the year ahead.

Thinking Deeply about Primary Education Conference Cardiff

A gathering of great primary practitioners sharing practice on Saturday 27th September 8.30-14.30 St Peter's R.C. Primary School, Cardiff.

I’ll be going to the Anti-racism in the Curriculum Conference 2025 in London on Saturday 13th September.

Support for primary leaders who feel that the EYFS is out of their comfort zone. Emma Lewry has just launched a 6 session self-paced training series, more info here.

Building Teams with Lekha Sharma and Sam Crome

We are delighted to have two of the sharpest thinkers on culture and team building!

Their self-paced course ‘Building Teams’ is now on Myatt & Co.

They answer some of the questions they receive about what it takes to create a setting where there are high levels of trust; how to think about building trust when it has been eroded; how to be patient, plus plenty more.

It’s a lovely energetic conversation between Lekha and Sam, and I learnt a lot!

A new session will be released each week, available with an annual or group subscription.

Building Belonging in Schools

Many leaders and teachers are asking: how can we create an environment where every child who comes to our school feels as though they belong. There’s a terrific short video from Jon Hutchinson on the research on the difference that belonging makes for young people.

If you are looking for light touch, high impact ways of developing oracy and personal development in your contexts, you’ll find these ‘Bites’ on Finding My Voice helpful.

For example, What makes me shine? This lovely provocation for pupils from Christian Foley is one of the prompts to support personal development in primary. And a neat provocation from Manny Awoyelu on the power of an idea.

And if you’d like to explore the programme, there’s a 14 day free trial, to Finding My Voice and you can sign up here.

Finally, if you’re not already on Teacher Tapp, do give it a go! Highly recommend for quick insights into the things that are top of mind for colleagues in the sector.

If you think there’s someone who would appreciate this update, you can forward the link here.

Until next time

But what if it’s actually the engine room of thinking, curiosity, and confidence? We’ve just done a session where we explore how high challenge, low threat classrooms help pupils and...
